i find taking the piss out of on-topic threads in the general discussion helps.

And who really wants to have serious discussions on a dj forum? I was hoping it this would be for fun stuff that didnt crowd the general dj discussion stuff...nope...people want to debate guns and politics...

I have learned that people that want to assert their "intelligence" aren't very smart...

I barely ever use the separate subforums, I use user cp and new posts. If I'm bored and I want more, I use 'today's posts' in quick links. I haven't noticed a difference since the new OT forum was created, other than that jester's been making more OT posts than before. I class that as a good thing.

Off topic posts in general really served a purpose. They broke up monotony of the forum. kept things fun when they got dry. drove traffic to general when everyone was bored of seeing the same 6 questions over and over and over.

now the other problem with an off topic forum in here is it opens opportunities for off topic discussions that DONT belong in here. Things like politics debates etc..

dude this isnt reddit. at least with things in general there was this grey area that you as moderaters could use to your will to prune things because well, it was general. with things so defined and segregated, now theres a ruleset for a user to hold up and abuse. you guys straight opened yourselves up to being trolled with your own ruleset. its not happened yet, but i promise you, it will.

im glad you didnt say "well it makes moderating easier". cause i would have had to have said that was a lazy way to think. ive moderated, on higher traffic boards and its as easy as reading the forum.

thats just me chipping the iceberg.

    tldr:

    a) general is boring and makes djtt look like a newbies forum now
    b) off topic segregated is TOO off topic.
    agreed 120%

i barely check any parts of the forum anymore. i never want to see another 'how to connect this to this' question again!

if any new subforums should have been created - it should have been a newbie forum. there's only so many times that we can help with answering the same repeated questions over and over because people don't want to search for an answer to their problem. although if people tagged their threads properly (or at all) it could help with making search results more concise.

I browse the same way as FEP so it's pretty much the same for me as well.

Regarding the "serious" controversy filled topic, sooner or later it ends being a cock fight. I'm all in for keeping this a friendly and relaxed forum, not a youtube comment section.

Josh is right on the tags matter a lot of people are too lazy to search or think they will have an answer faster if they open a new thread. Having new ones demand at least 1 tag will do a lot in the long run. Maybe add a "Did you search the forums already?" link in the new thread form as well.

Hey, that's what I said a while ago!

However, I browse like Padi & FEP do, so an OT section is irrelevent for myself....
