That Kid Koala show looks really cool; I had no idea he was doing that now. And it's the first time I've seen him with headphones! Not just any headphones either; those look like the more expensive Grados.
To respond to the thread, I've DJd with musicians quite a few times; usually drummers but have played a couple times with rock bands. With the rock bands it just happened organically; I was playing before or after them and they liked what I was doing and just started jamming with me -- that's probably the best thing; just get together and see what happens before you start mapping it out.
But you ought to learn some sort of scratching or beat juggling or button mashing or other tricks if you're going to be on stage with a rock band; playing loops and stuff can work but as the other video points out, it's gonna look pretty boring. I think until you play with a group for a long time, the DJ-in-a-band thing is going to be a novelty, which is fine, but then you ought to be able to put on a little show of some sort.
