start watching a lot of televsion, film or sports.
whatever you hear on there is generally pop or soon-to-be pop.
when your watching tv, don't mute the commercials. commercials are great because the music is a huge part of commercial's content, and depending on the product demographic - you're going to get a great selection of suggestions for what's hot and mainstream, or whats hot alternative manstream (hiphop, indirock, dance)
using pop culture as a digging tool is really awesome. it gives you a sense of trends and what the general public wants. if you pay close enough attention it also teaches you how music is used as tool to attract clients.
If you have any younger family members (cousins, nieces, nephews etc..) between the ages of 9-15, then they will tell you straight up what is hot & what is not, without even batting an eyelid.
Raid there Ipods for ideas. they love the stuff![]()
"Wow! I wanna be just like your friend! Thats honestly what i told my mom and dad when i was about 11 years old...i said when i grow up i wanna dj for rich people"
For Pop & Hip Hop I usually go the Billboard, MTV or similar sites to see whats new or top 10.
