Sounds like you need to do a lot more of your own research. If you can't figure out something basic like whether a Numark Mixdeck works with an iPod, you're going to really struggle when it comes time to actually learning how to DJ. Try Googling some stuff.

Your only option is to get the Numark IDJ Live and use that as a controller. Other wise instead of getting the 4-MX get a cheaper laptop with good enough specs and a cheaper controller like the Numark Mixtrack Pro. Honestly, the IDJ Live is good enough if you're only going to do house parties. It's portable and very fun to use and it actually has quite a few features on it. I bought one for my friend with an ipad and it a lot of fun. However, if you're trying to get into club gigs you'll have to learn how to use higher end gear. Like dual citizen said, you need to do a lot more research on what you want.

There are some very affordable laptops on the market today... with minimum specs you can get away with very little money spent

    You know. Just reading this.

The Stanton SCS 4 DJ might be up your alley. I know people have mixed reviews about it. But for $500, and you don't need a laptop? That's pretty sweet.

It really depends on your budget.

The next best option for DJing WITHOUT a laptop is more expensive. Finding a pair of used CDJ-400's or CDJ-800's should run roughly $400 each (give or take depending on the deal you could get). Between that and a mixer, you're looking at close to $1000 once everything is said and done.

What it comes down to is that this is not an inexpensive hobby. Good things cost big money.

Having a laptop/computer definitely helps a ton on this aspect. But, if you're looking for basic mixing without a laptop, the stanton thing is worth taking a look at in my opinion. I don't see many other viable options without having a computer involved while keeping the price low.
