I certainly see how Vinyl an appeal onto its own.

Smartmixing is at its best if your set is not just mixing from track and doing some cross fades, especially in combination with sync as you have just stripped away most of a djs job. The key is to use these innovations to allow yourself to do things that you normally would not be doing because of the time you spend syncing and eqing. At first glance it might seem a little dull if all your sets consist of is these simple tasks, that have for the most part been automated but it is where you take it from there that sets digital above analogue.

I've got that numark dxm06, also, it's not a bad little mixer. Although, i noticed u said u'll be doing a lot of scratching. I'm not a big scratcher, but i have noticed that the crossfader is a little unresponsive. if your doing, like, really fast crab scratches or something, it isn't as sensitive as u would probably want. the beat tap fx button and unit is kinda cool, but it's limited and sounds hokey most of the time; and, u wouldnt need it anyway if ur using a controller through traktor. Overall it's a nice, durable, cheap beginner mixer, though.
and, the eqs filters let too much bleed through when killed

Have you considered buying used gear?

A used Pioneer DJM-707 (which is basically a 909 without the effects) will probably run you $250 used on eBay or Craigslist. I scored one and it's a tank: really rugged (heavy too), customizable curve, lag, tension, etc, non-contact crossfader, send+return loop. Basically, a whole slew of specs that make it a great battle mixer. Here's a link to the review at Skratchworx.

    Other recommendations (brand new):

    $200 and below:
American Audio QD5 MKII (budget battle mixer)

    $200-400
    Numark DMXPro
    Stanton SA-5
Audio Innovate AEM-100i (I'd like one!)
Nuo 2.0 (fitted with an Eternal or Innofader...I'd like one as well!)

Good luck with finding a mixer!

i agree in that it is a good, durable, cheap, beginners mixer. And would probably be prone to agree with regards to the xfader.

however if you dont overuse them the fx can actually be useful, just DONT overuse them hehe. But like you said might as well use inbuilt fx on tracktor or ableton.

Im not sure about yours but my eqs work great and the kills dont let any bleed through at all. i've found the ranges and overlaps are pretty good on them as well.

But for scratching its probably not the best, and if you dont really need the fx...

If you can stretch to it the Vestax VMC004 XL is a good solid mixer with similar styling to the VCI SE and has 4 channels
