the processors in the these netbooks are designed for battery life in mind rather then performance. it's pretty interesting (and nerdy ) to compare the performance of the atom processor to even an older pentium M processor.

Hands down, the the m processor was a lot better in traktor 3.4. I managed to get lower latencies and run a few plugins in FL. I wasn't able to do that with the atom processor. The atom processor was faster in everything else e.g. pasting, installations.

Does the Atom support the full MMX and SSE3 (or whatever) instruction sets of the latest Core2Duo chips? I wonder if part of the performance discrepancy has to do with needing to reinterpret code that is optimized for other processors (i.e. - if Ableton/Traktor could be compiled in an Atom-friendly mode that would improve performance vs. the current available binary).

Previously stated the MSI - Wind was able to run MacOSX on the system. I am in about a week going to be picking up this particular system as a little banger laptop to amuse myself while at work, and run a basic Ableton setup to mess around with while at work (I have a boring security job).

    Futureshop.ca Acer Aspire One Netbook

This is a temporary laptop and just something to muck around with until I do pick up my MacBookPro in the fall.
What I am wondering is I have been comparing the specs on the MSI to this and wanted to know if it would run MacOSX as well?

    Has anyone tried this out?
    ... if so.
How well did it work? problems? (other then the obvious that its a small, lightweight machine)

the specs look fine i would only worry about the small screen being an issue. other than that, i could definitely see it as a crucial tool in a traveling dj's setup. sitting on a plane and doing a mix would be pretty sweet (pray for no turbulence) :P

Yeah for right now I am not to worried about having a super power laptop. The one I do have which is a 2.4ghrz (not duo) Toshiba satellite with a cracked screen that shutdown when it gets two hot is on its way out the door.

The Acer pretty much is a cheap replacement for me to amuse myself while I am at work. As I said I have a boring security job where nothing happens. So I can sit there and do small projects, mess around on the net etc...

For music applications I will probably work on simple fl.studio, reason, reaktor, or ableton projects (hash ideas out).

Then when I replace with the MacBookPro the Acer will become the sit on the couch and mess around on the internet type machine.

I've got an Asus 901 eeepc with traktor pro, and it works like a breeze for me, even with internal mixing. It hiccups a little bit if you don't turn bluetooth, wlan, the camera, etc. off, but other than that its all good.
I'm not good at things, but I like to pretend I am.

Sweet, I am sure the little box will work fine, and I knew that about PC's and turning off the wlan, bt, etc...

    Now the original question...

Would the machine I am planning on getting be able to run MacOSX just as the MSI-Wind did?

I am not to concerned if it wont, but it would be prime if it did.
