imo the main things that s4 has that s2 doesnt

    -4 channels with eq
-you can use timecode with the S4
-filter knobs (yes you can map one of the s2 knobs ur not using to filter, but s4 already has it built in right under the eqs)
    -sample decks
S2 does have access to sample decks, they are shared with the Cue Points however. I have the S2, it does everything I need at this point, with the Ean Golden mapping that is. If you want to get into advance techniques like 3 and 4 deck mixing, or using time code then you need the S4, or an S2 and some other controller (x1, f1, etc).

What do you wanna do? 4 tracks or 2 tracks+samples(remix decks in a month)?
If you like to use tracks only, s4 for sure!! If you want to use 2+2, s2 have total control over 2 decks (except for cue 5-8, but you can map it), and you can add an x1, or f1 in the future for have more control over samples than a s4. And this combo is also cheaper

The way I see it, with anything in life - if you have the funds, get the best.

It's a rule I've lived by since my first pay-cheque - the last thing you want to do is regret not getting the best you could when your talents surpass the technology you've bought.

If you have the money for the S4; get it. You won't regret it.

That's not to say the S2 is poor, not at all - it's an amazing piece of kit but the S4 is better.

Think of it like a standard car and one with fancy extras; both get you to the destination, one's just nicer and has more 'special' bits to it.

I bought an s2 and upgraded to the s4 within a month haha! S2 is much more portable and another expense to consider is that the cheapest bag I can find to go the s4 is £65.
The s2 can use 4 decks but full 4 channel is what sold it to me so I can plug in a cdj.
S2 does have filter knobs, when you hold shift the gain becomes filter or you can swap it in the settings so that the knob is filter and using shift it's gain

I'm more than happy with my s2. Until I master using two decks I don't really have a reason to add more.

i thought that until i tried it, even for saomething as simple as throwing in a track of white noise on one deck can really add something to a transition

For all that reason I added an x1, it has eqs, or volume/filters for samples, and dedicated control for play-trigger-retrigger-hotcues, instead of using a shift on the main console (like with the s4) , you have total direct access on all feature, anyway, I'm think I'm gonna upgrade myself to s4, but only for the possibility of using turntables or cdjs, and use anyway the x1 because I hate to use layer of controls. I want to be able to control everything in every moment.

What do we mean by using timecode with an S4? That it can be used as a mixer for timecoded cdj or vinyl?

Yes, but don't be mistake into thinking it's an analogue mixer that can be used without a computer (this applies to both units).
