I've had that same idea for a long time now (even before the F1 was ever talked about). Instead of making full blown tracks with arrangements, make a little 2 to 4 bar "loops" and then sell that. So now people can take those and work them however they want into their DJ set/Live PA/Original tracks/remixes and so on.

Ive got all the sets you can get from NI for free, there ok but thinking if you wanna take the F1 seriously its definetly given me an excuse to buy a Maschine Mirko. Do any of u guys own one and would it be good for making loops and samples??? from what ive seen it looks perfect but never tried one.

What I'd like to know is where we stand, legally speaking, by sharing "remix sets" with other F1 users. So for example, if I create a remix set of a copyrighted tune that contains say 16 loops from the original track, can we share this online? It doesn't contain the original full length mp3 so is essentially just a file containing a collection of small samples.

So what would happen if I created the remix set from a preview file I downloaded from the artists website or soundcloud? This preview file is being given away by the artist so what's the issue with re-purposing it into a remix set?

I think there's a bit of a grey area here personally... where do you draw the line? it'll be interesting to see how this all pans out... especially once labels/artists start releasing the remix sets themselves.

The remix sets haven't changed the copyright law so you still can't share a tune that you couldn't share before. However if it's an original track you can build a remix set and share it.

Yes, if you as a producer make a track available with parts specifically geared towards remix decks.

I have made a site, www.remixdeckset.com, where I you can share and upload your own sets and I am working on creating some of my own and working with labels to put some original remix decks up for download. Let me know what you think! Thanks!

I just uploaded a nice, albeit smallish, Complextro remix set to your site. It is in the key of G and is 128bpm. I uploaded it under the same name/email I use here. Let me know if its alright!!
