It's alright, HedgeHog, it's not a total thread hijack

I'm in the same boat as Jester, though. To adequately cue up my tracks I need at least 4 and at most 6, and that's usually just for phrasing cues so I can easily do those long blends I'm such a fan of

wrong. VDJ is 4-deck capable, its called multi-instance where 2 instances sync eachother and "talk" to eachother. As long as you have enough power even 6 or 8 decks are possible. The midi is far from beeing limited. Just do some research about the new way they map things. Cue points... they are defenitily not limited.
You can have a infinite number of cue´s.

Besides traktor vdj is the most powerfull dvs... and it has flawless videomixing too

The multi-instancing sucks. Its quite the uneccesary drain on your machine and creates higher latency than normal. You need a channel for each instance which is stupid if you only have one controller. I cant dedicate half of my controller to one channel. And VDJ creates pauses when you exit out of one program and go into the other. Multi Instancing isnt a feature its a gimmick. Yes the VideoMixing is fantastic, but Im not a VJ. And the midi is very very very very very limited. TPros midi mapping is superior by a longshot. And YES the cueing system is very limited. You cant snap cue, cant quantize your cue jumping. VDJ only natively allows you to cue juggle 3 points easily, while Tpro lets you do 8.

and again, trying not to hijack, but this kind of an issue is why we get resonance on filters instead of properly working read/write tagging from the Traktor Dev's.

nearly 3000 functions for one button, that's almost 400,000 completely different mappable functions with a VCI-100 and a keyboard. More controllers just make more possibilities. Traktor's MIDI capability is not an issue.

Back to VDJ 6, I would need at least 8 jumpable cue points, since I'm pretty used to it now. I'm not worried about video capabilities either, so isn't a selling point for me. Same as Dvls and Jester. If price is an issue, VDJ 6 would be better than Tpro to get started though.

Alright, now it's drifting a little bit from the OT. Let's not turn this into a VDJ vs Traktor thread.

Everyone knows Mixxx is where its at, because coding your own controller mappings in xml is pro.

well to me the scripting support is a big selling point. the music group thing could be fun. not really sure what to make of the netsearch feature or the native HID support.

    here is some more commentary:

In VDJ you can have infinite cue-points. i can easily set up to 20 cues if i wanted to. Its also possible to trigger the cues. Im not sure what quantizising means, but im sure its possible to. Answer me this, how many cues does tp have? Surely, you guys are more comfortable with the way traktor does things, but please do some research before you state something obvious wrong. I can also jump from one instance to another without dropouts etc.

Here´s whats new so far http://www.virtualdj.com/products/vi.../version6.html

    http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/VDJscript.html

here you can find few examples of what is possible, like giving a infinite number of controls for one single button/knob etc, something VDJ didnt have before but TP had. Surely the midi-implentment was better in Traktor... but know i feel its even. Wont start a war neither we´re all just a bunch of hippies, right?

I think for a beginning dj traktor should be the better solution, vdj just needs a little more in-depth knowledge with all the .xml and .dll programming. Traktor is cheaper also i think, TP 199,-€ and VDJ 250,-€
    peace

Looks like a toy, that's enough for me to keep with Traktor.
