Traktor's pretty limited in comparison to VDJ. VDJ is really nicely customisable and will be even more so with the next major release.

Visually customisable, but nowhere near as intuitive and thought-out.

mapping in vdj7 already blows the pants off traktor - i'm sure that vdj8 with all it's new bells and whistles will be a lot more usable than traktor. so yep - i guess he did say that

Not just visually, you can do a hell of a lot of cool stuff under the bonnet and their mapping scripting thingy is sweet too.

Hells yeah! I said the shit out of it! I meant it too... when I was drawing them I was thinking of the mapping for it and traktor couldn't come close without midimasher or another middleware program Traktor is better presented yes, but the dev team at atomix have created something that the user base can modify to suit their needs, with almost no limitations.

It's really strange that no one ever really understood the potential it has all because of a toy like skin and a crap name, but VDJ8 should be exciting, although I'm pretty sure the two things everyone hates "skin & name" are staying. But that's cool the name doesn't bother me and I can make skins, so can anyone else!

I've always thought that if the VDJ guys sorted out the settings menus and shipped with a really slick default skin they would be taken a lot more seriously.

I'm sorry but, you just cannot compare VDJ to Traktor or Serato. Especially with the names that they have using their software compared to VDJ's DJ List. Seriously, if it was better, you'd think more people would use it no matter what it looked like or if it had a shitty name.

I don't even slightly think that. I believe people pick things because they are shiny and popular and someone they respect told them to.

    Only geeks go for customisability.

edit: I love how you rate the software by the artists using it. I personally rate gear based upon features, not celebrity enforcement.

Virtual DJ was the first thing I started out on using just a Computer Keyboard... When I started using Traktor, I realised how much better it was and started using it. At that point I had never even looked up what popular DJ's and Producers use to DJ, otherwise I would probably be DJing using Ableton or Serato.

EDIT: Therefore, IMHO, VDJ cannot be compared to Serato or Traktor and majority of people on this forum and majority of the worlds best Digital DJ's will agree.

Also customisation of a program only allows for it be messed with and therefore become possibly unstable.
