haha..i mean to say that, would running a mixer with "okay" sound quality through an audio 8 with an assumable "better" sound quality actually make the sound better? or would it still sound like the quality being output from the mixer?

I'd go from the audio 8 thru the mixer, not the other way round.

If you are hooked up right through the mixer and have 4 decks running you wouldnt have an outs to run out of the audio 8 anyways. But at the same time if your mixer sounds like shit, then you would only get shit back out of the audio 8.

Same principle as re-recording a 128 mp3 as a 320, it will still sound like balls, but it'll just be bigger

If you are sending a shitty signal through an Allen & Heath 4D it's still going to sound like shit. If you send a shitty signal through the Audio8 it is going to sound like shit.

It might sound a little cleaner, but a gold polished shit is still a shit.
    It's the FAQ. Read it.

yes! that's the phrase i was looking for. exactly what my gut instinct told me would happen.

    good analogies everyone. :P

and, i may be setting myself up for a royal kick in the ass, but the mixer i'm getting (monetary issues..) is the behringer djx700. i've heard mixed reviews, but the overwhelming majority say the sound is quite flat. either way, thanks for all the help/clarifications guys.

Dude look at it like this. The heart of any setup is the mixer . If that sounds shit it will all sound shit BUT the mixer is the one but that you can replace easily.

You have a good laptop. Your getting a great program and a the top soundcard. If you buy a cheapo mixer at least your up and running.
Your future proof (to a degree). You have no need to upgrade the soundcard at all ever, the software is not gonna change for a few years. So use the cheap mixer until you can afford a great mixer.

Im not gonna judge the DJX700, its Behringer so you get exactly what you pay for.
If you aint got the money for a top end mixer dont sweat it just make sure you buy the best for the little money you have.

Id say buy the one with the best quality sound and the least bells and whistles. You dont need a BPM counter on the mixer you have Traktor.
You dont need effects on the mixer you have Traktor.

DO you need 4 channels. If not look at some of the cheap Vestax 2 or 3 channel mixers.

You're setting yourself up for a royal kick in the ass. Invest a little more money into a nuo 2.0 or xone 22, and you won't regret it. Please?
