keithace, Thanks for cross posting my rant over here I don't use these forums very much... Glad some people appreciated my post.

DubluW, you'd be surprised how many people don't know how to dig for music at all using any method.

DJ Asand & AllDay, I have to say that does sound a little hipster :P There are plenty of things on Beatport buried deep in the catalogue that have maybe been downloaded a dozen times, if that. The charts might be mainstream and some of the labels may see more exposure than others (Toolroom Records for Tech House as an example) but the site is a massive library of music and even the record crates in old school record shops had tracks in them that were popular near the front... It's about digging to the back and looking for the tunes with dust on them.

DubluW, Digging deep into the labels and artists is the only way to do it, too many people only ever look at the charts and front page releases.

You're welcome. Digging/Selection is what in the end seperates us all. I do an insane amount of digging and love sharing some of the stuff I unearth. Like Here. But I really do hate the "i need another genre to mix, so can you please give me some of the music you searched so hard for?" threads.

Good post, i especially like the example "Jo Manji - Long Train" that is an awesome track. Lots of ppl hating on Beatport in this thread tho. Personally thats the only place I look for music, mainly because its a time thing, there are enough tracks on there to dig through all day let alone other sites.

However, I never touch the Beatport 100 for the exact reason mentioned in the article. Personally i couldnt care less what other people have downloaded. All i care about is what music i like to hear and I trust my ear in music enough to know these songs are good. I simply go to whatever genre im looking for, click "tracks" and start listening. If they make it on the Beatport 100, so be it, it's certainly not a requirement tho.

So yeah, Beatport is perfect for digging, imo 95% of all the songs aren't worth downloading in the first place. If i listen to 100 songs and I get like 3 i like, thats a wildly successful outing.

Glad someone finally said that in bold. Id love to hear a mix with these said underground bangers!

Totally agree with the sensible comments about Beatport. Great info for those new to digging.

    Nice post man.

and like it said on the article find a tune you like and take from there

Beatport is just another vehicle for finding and buying tunes, you can completely ignore the top 100 if it bothers you so much.

I understand the frustration Keith but we are DJs and surely the primary interest to all DJs is music. I don't mind sharing a tune here or there but get the point you're making. A DJ should dig for their own stuff. That's what it's all about for me.
