actually this same thing happened to me YEAAAARS ago

Dj boris (big at the time in the North East USA) was supposed to play while i opened one night in New York.
Cant remember the name of the place for the life of me but hey.... its long over.

Well i opened for a couple hours of dropping beats, then he comes walking in.
This guy actually went to the owner and said "He didnt like the vibe of the night with the music i was going to leave him off with"
he said this to the owner.
then he says that he is leaving,
    came back to the booth
    took his stuff
and walked out. Didnt seem pissed, just like, he was not in the mood.

The owner came to me while still playing and begged that i had enough music to cover the rest of the night.
    I did, no problem
he then proceeded to give me an envelope with Boris' pay in it.
I said "I dont know how to reach him"
the owner said that the money was for me.

like im going to say no?

but all the promotions and whatnot, marketing and stuff that came out next day.
    editorials,
    blogs
    news articles bla bla bla

they all spoke of Boris ripping it up in a set that was described as "Rare Form"

ok so what about me? i got no credit for it, and still, i didnt argue it either.

My advice, stick to your guns man.

This is one of those times where is best to say NOTHING at all. Take it while you can get it, and cherish it for now

this has kind of happened to me.

i met another dj at my last job about 10 years ago and did several gigs and house parties with him. he landed us a spot at a hookah lounge here in town and invited me to open for him. btw, he would never let me be the closer in spite of me telling him it may be a better idea since i was bringing 100% of the people into the venue. that is not an exaggeration. he had 0 people he knew show up every time and i had about 15-30 that i was pulling in for the few weeks we gigged there. it was a small place so that filled it out pretty nicely. there were also some random folks who just popped in as well.

the first night there, i was spinning some nice, loungy deep house with occasional world vibes sprinkled throughout. you know, the kind of stuff that was in my comfort zone and makes sense in a hookah lounge. songs you would nod your head to while just hanging out and relaxing. i could tell everyone was digging it and jamming along (outside of the couple odd requests for 50 cent and the doors - yup). a group of people came in on my last song (a mellow 16 bit lolitas deep tune) and they gave me a thumbs up and commented on how they were digging the vibes. unfortunately for them my friend was next up and completely destroyed the mood. his first track mixed in was a hard, hard, trance track that he had the pitch fader waaaaaaay down to beatmatch and then he worked the bpms up over 130 very quickly. everyone just stopped, looked at the stage stunned, saw me packing up my gear, and literally all just left. EVERYONE. he cleared out over 30 people including the ones who just got there and sat down. all my friends waited outside for me and they said they couldn't take the music he played. he still occasionally references that "residency" where he "killed" the place. yeah, well it died for sure...every time he came up after me, everyone would shake their head in disbelief and take off.

it's funny because he is the same dude who will constantly post disparaging remarks on his facebook about how he cant get any gigs because laptop djs are stealing them for bar tabs. he calls us "serato jokers" and thinks we all torrent music that we scout from the beatport top 100 chart. he actually believes that people who use anything but vinyl have no talent and are not real djs (yes even cdjs). he thinks house music is dead. he believes that it's easier and less expensive to get vinyl pressed than a digital song out there.

HE TRIES TO CHARGE $700/HR - 2 HOUR MINIMUM - WEEKLY SPOT - 3 MONTH CONTRACT FOR HIS GIGS. he trainwrecks a lot of transitions. most of his mixes are dissonant. he sends empty jewel cases to promoters to seem in-demand. he spins only hard dance music, usually of the trance variety. he has never produced a track that's harmonically compatible. then he blames people who use laptops (that all pirate everything) as the sole reason he doesn't get any gigs. i made a small joke about his "artist" rates on my facebook page and he wrote a whole diatribe of ramblings on my page and de-friended me for it.

yup, i've had some good times with this dude.

That sounds incredibly frustrating, but in the long run he'll get caught up in his lie. His friends will wanna see him spin but you'll be getting gigs and he won't.
