I havent seen a pair of technics go for less then $800 around here. So like £600..

Since buying my last ones just after Christmas, I have seen at least 3 other sets for similar prices. They do fluctuate in price admittedly, but you can pick them up for decent monies if you keep a look out.

    £300 : http://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/tw...les/1005726455
    £350 : http://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/pa...yls/1007471750
    £350 : http://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/x2...mk2/1007461950

    £350 : http://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/te...air/1007268652

All these are around the same budget as new T62's, and were found in less than a minute. If I were the OP, I would be heading down this route. No point in getting cheap TT's, when 1210's can be had for the same budget, and will always be worth at least what he paid for them.
Technics 1210 mk2's, Pioneer CDJ 500, Allen & Heath DB4, NI F1's (x2), Reloop Contour Controller Edition, Sennheiser HD25 1-II or Allen & Heath XD2-53's depending on my mood...

Indivisual, I had a bcd3000 and had turntables hooked up to it, its not bad. Take a look around for any of Geminis PT line of turntables. I've got the PT-1000s and they are great. Lots of torque, and really nice decks imo. Only the PT line though. It seems Gemini only got it right once with turntables lol.

If you can find some, go try them out, you will be surprised. I bought 2 and a mixer for $350 or $400 I can't remember.

I learned to mix on a pair of Stanton T62s. Not BAD, but definitely not GREAT. I had a blast with them while they were around. I have since phased them out of my kit and I'm $300 away from buying a pair of Denon S3700's.
When we all make music, the God Spirit travels out of our bodies and we become one with each other. And for just a second, there is no war, greed, or hate in the world, just music, the celebration of life. (and usually a party, which is good too!)

Can I ask what the bad things were about the T62s?

It seems that I cannot find any PT-1000s anywhere in any of my local dj stores. Maybe they are discontinued. I don't feel entirely comfortable with buying secondhand turntables so I might not be able to buy them.

I didn't say there was anything bad about them, just that they are in the same price range as second hand 1200 / 1210's. And that the Technics decks would by far the most sensible purchase.

I did, however, notice you went on to say this:

You can rest assured that second hand 12's are not a scary buy. My first set of 1210's I bought second hand almost 15 years ago, and they have NEVER missed a beat. There is a reason why they are the industry standard.

I've rarely seen a pair of Technics go for anything under $600. Especially in the past couple of years. You can get a pair of T.62s for $200-400 usually. Hell, I've seen pairs go for under $200.

I bought 2 Numark Direct drive turntables (complete with carts and needles), with a mixer and 100 Vinyl for £90 off ebay and all worked fine and came in a flight case.

Admittedly I have now sold them (made a very nice profit) as I already have a Traktor setup, and needed some monies for Hideout.

But these were great fun and got me comfortable with TT's. They were Numark TT1650's (I think)
