nice, i think i may have found the solution.. you mentioned using it with a controller. im assuming apc40 or a lanchpad wouldnt matter, although i guess the launch pad would be easier to travel with, i just think the apc would be a better choice because i could use it for mixing without the k2 and i can assign effect to it... your thoughts?

I like the launchpad for portability reasons because everything fits into one bag with all of my cables and backup cables, but an apc 40 would allow you to have more control since you could have a dedicated mixer allowing you to do almost anything you could think of with the k2: full effect control on seperate pages, and/or a page of super knobs and buttons. It is a very easy controller to map too since it comes with 3 dedicated pages or you could add more to it with modifiers.

I don't think any of that behringer stuff is out yet because I've been patiently waiting for the MM-1 because it can be my dedicated mixer and give me 4 more usb ports for my numark orbit

I also use a launchpad + k2, really good compact setup (sometimes just k2, the thing is that good) and a ridiculous amount of buttons available, i use an external mixer as well when i can so the amount of control on the k2 can map everything.

I know people like nanokontrols but for playing out they're not that good, tiny little faders, bad buttons and knobs, no feedback.

To start with you could just get the k2, launchpad would be good as it would complement ableton, should you want to perform your own stuff with live.
