My 12's did that when you would turn the power knob occasionally. The platter would move forward a very small amount. It's no big deal I think.

Sounds like you may need to adjust the braking speed.

That's the first thing I'd look at, anyway...

If the platter is uneven when it rotates, it means the spindle is bent. This comes from a long hard life, with some abuse. The more you readjust it, the more chance of it breaking. I'd replace it if possible.
