If its connected directly to controller, how do i get the monitors to be connected to my macbook for regular usage (youtube, itunes, etc.)?

Use the SX as your OSX output device.

So the reason why that wont work for me is because, ill unplug the sx to do production using my midi keyboard. I want to avoid unplugging and plugging wires to and from the monitors.

could it work if i bought an interface that connects the monitors to the laptop and then have my sx connected to the interface? if so, which type would i need to buy?

Do you use Serato? If so, you have to use the SX as your audio output device.

The SX has to be turned on to use it as an output device, yes.

thanks makar1 for answering. one more though; so theres no other options with having an audio interface or something of that matter? because there are times when i will set my sx aside to do some producing.

Your monitors have multiple inputs don't they? So connect the audio interface to the other input.

I'm assuming you're talking about the USB/Firewire plug to your laptop? If so, sounds like you need a USB Hub, (if it's USB, I'm not overly familiar with Mac-land) and it's generally recommended to get a powered one. That way you could plug in your MIDI controller and SX into the hub, the hub into the laptop and do everything everyone else said. (use SX as your main out from your laptop for production and Serato which can then both use the monitors without unplugging everything)
