I struggle with this discussion. Its not right but how is it any different to someone selling a crate of their vinyls? (there is a thread on this very forum and countless vinyl sales on ebay that dont get closed down or removed)

I have a mate into northern soul and he buys 7" LP's on ebay all of the time and no-one bats an eyelid!

Peoples opinion on piracy seems to be selective depending on the media in question.

No they are just selling the same tracks over and over again!!

Say you sold all your vinyls, but before you did. You made 200 copies of each on cd. and then sell them for profit. See a problem there?!

So if I sold my entire MP3 library without making a copy of the tracks is that ok? Is it the act of making a copy thats illegal?

I honestly find this topic fascinating.

    Some light reading http://www.riaa.com/physicalpiracy.p...online_the_law

Yes making a copy and selling it or even giving it away for that matter is illegal.

Now with so many mixes and demos and just tracks flying around on the net, the lines become a little hazy..but...

Selling multiple copies of a track and not paying royalties is highly illegal....at least in America.

You might be surprised to find out that all nightclubs are REQUIRED to pay ASCAP and BMI royalties for its dj's to be able to play tracks. (based on the number of people the club holds).

All of this is very country dependent.

Yes it is illegal at the moment in Australia, but they are trying to change it, the recent study the government did into geo blocking etc had a lot of recommendations regarding allowing digital files to be resold.

This article isn't a bit more australian central... http://apo.org.au/commentary/selling...have-stuck-cds

With regards to nightclubs in Australia, clubs (actually any business that plays music, even cafes, clothes shops etc) have to pay a license fee to APRA every year (similar to the ASCAP/BMI stuff in the US)

That money gets 'distributed' to artists on the club charts. So the system is a little crooked. Big artists get lots, the smaller guys get f*ck all.

Illegal is a VERY interesting word.

Suggest (if people are interested) they do some light reading on the difference when something is "legal" or "lawful".

how about contacting the label and sending them a URL to the auction?
that would probably get EBAY working on this really quickly
