My other concern with DDj sx is that I have been reading that people are having faceplate buckling issues. So is the quality not there?
I will look into the reloop controller. Any others people feel are worth taking a look at?

are you set on serato? If not have you looked at the S4? I love mine, it handles 4 decks flawlessly and has just about everything anyone could need. Also having the controller made by the oftware company itself has its advantages because it has pretty much the tightest jog wheel integration I've seen on a controller.

    Just something to think about.

I'm not 100% certain of this, but I'm fairly sure that if the laptop or Traktor crashes, you're screwed with the S4 which is something OP mentioned as a concern.

Thanks guys I really appreciate the info and discussion going on. Another bit of info/ concern I got from a friend that recently used the DDj sx was that it did not have the sound punch as he expected. He was using a set of Pio CDJ 800 and the rane ttm 57 sl. Any info on that part? Is it just that the controller would never be able to put out the same quality of sound as the rane or is it a setting issue?

XDJ-R1 is considerable option in that price range if you want to go for CDJs (and/or Traktor with MIDI). Just check out some reviews on it or read my latest posts on it. If this is interesting for you and you have some questions left feel free to ask.

A good general advice: If possible buy at a dealer who offers full refund within some days. That way you can try equipment for a longer time and without the pressure of only beeing able to read reviews, but wanting to own it ;-)
A second general advice: Think about buying used gear. I have good experiences buying used instruments and dj gear. Often you get used gear with even some left warranty for half the original price.

Here in new england if you shop around you can pick up a used pair of CDJ-800MK2's or CDJ-400's for about $600 for the pair. Add any mixer to that to begin with (even a $50 mixer will get you started, you can always upgrade it later), and you have a great little CDJ setup. If you want to use a laptop, go get a Serato Box (The SL1 is ~$200 used, give or take a bit).

It's a cost effective way to get some solid equipment.

Will it be flashy and brand new? No. Will it withstand the test of time? Yes.
