with a web cam could you see people at the bar or around tables tapping their feet or bumming their heads? no you would see people on the floor or an empty floor. Streaming good quality sounding music requires fast internet, and if you at the same time stream video it can soon become unreliable.

If you get those speeds consistently that's great, but I and most people I know in the US top out at 20 maybe 30 down and a fraction of that up. I've never seen speeds like that except at large institutions that are probably paying serious bank for a fat pipe - not something most people have at home.

The other big issue is why? I could see this being useful if you wanted to pipe someone special in for a set at a festival or something (with video projection on a large screen at the venue), but in most cases I can't imagine many DJs would want to be alone at home or in a room spinning for a club they can't even get a drink at, much less interact with the crowd, jump on the dancefloor, etc. Even with a webcam it would be difficult for me to keep up the energy level required to spin for a set without some kind of crowd interaction. Maybe if I was having my own party at my place, but then my attention would be there and not at the gig I'd actually be getting paid for.

When I read this I was hoping you had figured out a way to let DJs collaborate with each other online - live mixtrains where I can mix right into your stream from thousands of miles away.... It's still bedroom DJing but it would be cool to spin back to back with friends around the world.

Here in Japan most people get that speed but I know that Americans get pretty bad speed through their cable providers. Of course if I was running a bar or some establishment that needed it I would op for the better connections.

Actually kind of surprised that people can't see the use for something like this. Imagine a DJ being able to do some kind of subscription base deal with dozens of smaller places who can't afford the space, time or equipment to put a DJ setup in their place. But instead of just the radio you have live entertainment and could even take requests. Imagine being able to wake up in the middle of night and put your 2 hours in and then fall right back into the sack. I think it's ultra cool. PLus I'm older and believe me, when you're older the idea of something like this is very appealing.

I'm all for new ideas and everything, but this idea makes me think of only one thing as far as DJing goes...

100% agree with this. the costs are so high to bring in some guest mega super star. taking out the transportation costs will mean lower cost for entertainment, and for artists the time spent traveling to these events could be used for writing music and staying healthy.

obviously the "experience" on both ends will be different, but i think you'll be seeing a lot more of this in the future.

Millions of people already tune into boiler room and ultra when they're streamed. Why wouldn't they do so in the back ground at the bar with friends?

The webcam I have installed in your bathroom suggests otherwise.

That sounds like staying at home doing homework and eating salad... I'd rather be out jetting off and getting plastered.

I think you mean prerecorded music played live.

Of course it could wind up looking like this.

So doe the company rent the equipment to the place and take a cut of the DJ's salary?
