I have been thinking of testing this... isn't there a way of grouping/ routing virtual outputs to physical... sayin deck A and C to soundflower channel 1-2 , 5-6 .. and in sound flower route these to Audio 4's out 1-2... Traktor deck B and D to soundflower channel 3-4 , 7-8 .. and in sound flower route these to Audio 4's out 3-4 ...

Can this be donne ... with Jackosx router or somethin' ... just thinking out loud (to the Keyboard..) hope to find the time to muck about next week or so...

if any1 has tried or want to shed some light on the subject..

But wouldn't you then be limited to one set of channel controls on that mixer for mixing decks A/C and B/D? That's the problem. You can then add another layer onto your MIDI controller for EQ, but that completely defeats the purpose.

Right m8. But still Imagine you mix mainly with Time Code (deck A and B), but then use a (say VCI) controller to mix somethin in like a 3rd deck .. if you know that you only need a third then you can always choose to use Deck C (say Audio 4 DJ, out 1-2, physical mixer Ch1) or Deck D (say Audio 4 DJ, out 3-4, physical mixer Ch2)..

Ok it's far fetched and a bit looney but I'm just curious if it can be done...

I can think of something even crazier and heavier on resources which is to have each deck on a Ableton Live Channel and then do Groups in Live, which in turn would be routed to which ever output you might need!...

I mean... this whole idea is just pointless... just get a 4 channel mixer, its like $50 more....

sure m8 but I was going along the lines of my own post which presented a sort of similar problem.

PS - I know some people that got Traktor Scratch DUO, then upgarde the software to PRO now they want to have 2 decks with timecode control and a third deck just with accappelas, effects, etc... so they don't really want much more than a simple play/ Cue as they don't need to eq/ pitch/ etc... and the very few things they might need to do they can get way with a mouse and a few keyboard shortcuts!

LanceBlaise - what if a guy already owns a mixer and doesn't really want to get another one?

Well, if you want 4 channels I think, in the end, you're going to need a 4 channel mixer and theres' no way around it really.

could you not just output to the sound card on mono channels. so then the left input in mixer channel 1 is deck 1 right is deck 2 and do the same for 3 and 4 on mixer channel 2?

so instead of setting outs 1 and 2 to deck 1, 3 and 4 to deck 2 etc... you set 1 to 1, 2 to 2 and so forth, and plug 1 and 2 into channel 1 and 3 and 4 into channel 2?

    just an idea...

(or buy a 4 ch mixer)

humm I gues that would work .. maybe not so well if you play minimal stuff which really uses lots of effects/ delays/ etc... that rely a little on having a stereo... but still it's a feasible way ...

or buy a second 2 ch mixer and use a splitter to link then both to sound system. but for how much extra that costs you might aswell sell current mixer and put cash toward a 4 ch mixer
