I've seen and heard DJ's who have bigged themselves into promising big big things.. (dancefloor packed from start to finish, the 'best' music, etc..) social media experts almost, to see and hear that same guy break his promises one after the other...
Moral of story,
Don't promise what you can't deliver.
Also, seen mobile phone screengrabs of 'satisfied' customers after what looks like a feedback text. I'm convinced they are fake - they all have the same spelling and punctuation mistakes.

I'd say the best way to promote yourself as a DJ if you don't produce is to get involved in your local scene. Go out and meet people, network with em, but don't be really pushy. Don't give off that "I'm just here so I can get a booking" vibe. It'll take weeks of support on your end but it'll pay off.
