I think I picked a weird time to come back into DJing.

I haven't spun except maybe once or twice in over a year, pretty much right after I bought my ddj-sx. And it's weird to come back in and see that gear hasn't really changed at all.

    I think I want one.

Is it better than an x1, a pair of f1s and a nice mixer? Probably not. But once you add in a sound card, it'll probably be cheaper. Heck, it'll be cheaper than a good Pio or Xone.

And it's less to carry and worry about setting up right.

When is it supposed to drop?

MIDI ports aren't going away any time soon. I reckon one USB port could fit just above the main USB port or above the Kensington Lock slot, and the other next to the NI logo in a vertical manner.

    Official video is up.

It's a standalone mixer and seems to have some new stuff. Also, it's $1200 in the US.

I think I like it, but for $1200, I don't think I want one yet, not when I'm very close to finally buying a rotary mixer.

And Ean has a video on the front page that goes into more detail.

    2 big things....

First, the fader panel is removable/replaceable. I wonder if that means I could jam Roataries in it?

Second, it really does seem set up for 2 track decks and 2 remix decks, but the screens at least seems capable of doing whatever you want, which is pretty cool. I still think the modular thing is going to be a better choice for me for the time being. But it looks really nice.

The only gripe I have with the S8 is the decision to use a 48khz audio interface.

Every other NI audio "thingy" I have is 96khz, why the regression? I don't even use 96khz in my traktor settings but it seems like that every time NI puts out a piece of hardware they always have a least one weird flaw that makes me go

I think Traktor is learning that no one else does either.

It's more expensive to make a 96kHz sound card than a 48kHz sound card.

All of the music we play (except original productions if you care and maybe promos if the producer does) is 16/44.1 anyway.

And 48kHz is plenty high enough. You'd have to have an absolutely fantastic sound system to hear the difference. All it matters for is artifacts created by the low-pass filter that's required becasue of a mathematical oddity...the difference is not supposed to be audible. I can't hear it in a PT HD3 studio with Genelecs. I sure as **** wouldn't be able to hear it anywhere at club volumes.

I'd rather they spend that money on better output amplifiers or screens or lowering the price a few bucks. Whatever.

So, how long until an F1 mk2 that adds some of the updates?

ETA: I just watched ean's video again and had a couple realizations....the thing got a lot cooler in my eyes. I still think it's not the way I want to go, but that really depends on how you can map the performance pads. If I could, say, ditch the freeze mode and map that page of controls to something I'd actually use.....that might win me over....which sucks, 'cuz I really had my heart set on a different mixer.

Ditto... since it's powered due to the screens, it would make sense to add a few ports.

I am actually intrigued, but have similar reservations as most. How versatile will the browse be (easily fixed in software updates) and can I get used to beat matching without jogs or pitch. My first CD deck used buttons to nudge, but that was 20 years ago and it sucked lol. My next setup was going to be a regular mixer and x1's. So, this thing really makes me feel it is all I'd want.
Given all of that, the only big drawback would be a tight DJ booth someplace where I used the house mixer... It's easier to plug in a few X1's than find a place for this beast.
Have to go to a store and actually see it... At that point, I know I may find a way to make room for it

Do you think s8 will be released this year?
