About the rep system (sorry if its been finally dicussed, i only read upto page 11)
Something i seen on another forum, was everybody started with 50rep
And the mods gave + or -
bearing in mind there was about 30 mods, and it was a 90% UK site though so there was always a few active.

There's another forum I go to occasionally that has one of the most interesting rep systems on the internet.
For every 1000 points, you have 1 visible rep on your profile. members rep you or neg you as usual. If another member has lets say 10000 points, and reps you, you will get 10 visible reps on your profile etc. If the is a member with high reps, and reps you, you will get a higher rep.
The mods on the forum have a visible rep power of 1 million plus to keep things in order. If a mod reps you for a good post etc, you will have 1000+ visible reps on your profile. Its pretty fun, and cool IMO as it encourages people to not post crap or the will get negged or mod negged.
fuck the reps, ppl abused it constantly on that site

Rep is pointless IMO. Most of the people who had maxed out rep stars on DJF got them through making jokes or posting funny vids, and the system was abused all the time.
My forum has a rep system of sorts, even though nobody uses it, but it works differently to the DJF one. Every post has a "like" button on it, so your rep score can only go up. It's still largely pointless, but it's not open to the neg-rep abuse that DJF's system suffered from.
