At the end of the day, yes.
That said he equipment is a hell of a lot of fun and there's no point doing something if you don't enjoy the process to its fullest potential.
The results are what matter to everyone else, the end result is not all that matters to me and if I'm going to invest my free time in a hobby I want to enjoy the process and everything that goes along with it.
Gear is awesome, my wallet is jealous of people satisfied with the bare essentials.

DJ setup would be, either 2 cdj2000's and a nice mixer playing with usb.
Production setup would be: high end windows desktop with 2 widescreens operating FL studio, and nice 61 keys keyboard and good pair of monitors, I am set.
2 x STR8-150s (which I have already)
Shure M44-7s (which I have)
A nice high end scratch mixer, maybe a Rane or a Rodec (currently have a beaten up old Hak 310)
Some decent headphones
Records (which I have, but not enough of them!)
And if a DVS existed that was absolutely rock solid, had the features I want, and performed exactly like vinyl, I'd add that and a small controller (for cue points, loops etc.) to the list too, along with an Ultrabook.
dont get me wrong, i buy vinyl & serato timecodes like a mad man
I wish I'd bought the 92R I had my eye on to replace my 62. I'd maybe like to change the 1000 Mk3's to 2000's. Other than that, I'm more than happy with mine.
/me reminds himself to buy a new stylus, because one is bent.
