I use a VCM600 to controll traktor and ableton. Alot of setting up n such and I'm still sorting out a few things. But I can't complain at all (well tbh the only complaint I have with the set up is the lack of 'clicks' on the eq knobs at 12 o'clock), it's a sold piece of kit to control some solid software. All that's left to do is practice practice practice
    fart.

See, this is the issue with shift buttons.

In Traktor you can set toggle buttons with modifiers. So, for example, you hit a button and the left deck controls deck C. No shifts. And then when you press it again it goes back to deck A.

It's actually not hard at all. The visual feedback can be an issue, though.
    It's the FAQ. Read it.

I use a VCI-100 and APC40 together to control 4 decks. But most functions are duplicated between the two units, so either one stands alone as a four deck controller. The reason I use both is because they complement each other in different ways. Visual feedback is handled through the "send modifier state" command in traktor, and I use Bome'sMT for some custom functions.

The VCI-100 is set up so the left side controls A/C, and the right B/D, but I don't need to hold a button down to make the switch. I use two toggles. One for the left and one for the right. Basically that means each side can control two decks, but each side is independently switchable too.

The APC40 has enough controls for 4 decks without any shift buttons.

Yea, the extra hands turn out to be the biggest problem
Coming from the turntable world, I needed something that I can still spin/nudge... also hating SHIFT really with a passion, I went and put 4 Xone1Ds together :O Currently putting the whole thing in a 19" flightcase and will be adding a MIDI crossfader. The mapping's already pretty nice, it can do beatjuggling, has the superknob/preconfigured FX, even some beatmasher/roll on the buttons... Getting back to the extra pair of hands is next
What I'd really like to know is how you guys use the power of four As in, what's your workflow...

Yeah but toggle buttons you push so that it switches what deck you are controlling is just like a different scene/midi page on your controller. Ok, the controller might have multiple pages so a toggle button would be better so it essentially flicks between just the two, BUT, and this is a big but in my book... What if you want to control something on decks A & C at the same time? Unless I'm missing something you can't as you can only flick between A & C. Is that correct?

Yes plus it can get confusing with knob positions etc.

My thoughts exactly. I am a strong believer in that a button should DO the same thing every time TO the same thing every time. I know how I work and sometimes I do crazy fast mixing and I know I'll forget my controller is toggled to deck C and will try to load something into deck A and fuck it all up.

Thats my issue with the 4 decks on a VCI.

The soft taker over on the volume faders and EQ knobs.

Its not possible to control 4 decks with ease....its a MISSION!

The way i play is like..with my eyes closed. It must flow and happen.
This 4 deck solution does not allow me to do that.

I have started using an X-Session pro....and have mapped a few of the C and D deck controls and will see if this will work for me.

The X Fader i will use to control the C and D volume (i do forsee issues there tho) and there are enough knobs to control the C and D EQ and FX.

    Not the best solution tho.

    I too would like 2 VCI's!
