@Pepehouse : Daft Punk became rich and famous with Homework, but I see what you mean. "One more time" is my least favourite of that album, along with "Crescendolls"+"High life".

Back on topic, one could make a sweeping statement on the many techno producers who turned (too) soft, i.e. Mauro Picotto, Marco Carola..

@duerr : I'm not much into dnb but from what I gathered, Pendulum can now be used for trolling purposes right ?

One thing that folks have brought up in this thread is Pendulum and Daft Punk.

If I'm not mistaken. Pendulum was/is a rock band that sucked, and decided to make DnB because they thought it sounded cool. They put out an album, and it was huge, and now they are trying to go back to their "rock" roots. And in turn, sucking.

Daft Punk is just commercially huge, and I honestly like most of their stuff. After Homework they were/are still pumping out big tunes.

The one thing I see about both of these groups, is that they get people INTO techno/electronica that wouldn't always look this way otherwise. I mean, I have some friends who historically were really just into rock. And these groups got them listening to techno, and they've moved to some of the better stuff now.

But I think something needs to be said for groups that bridge the genre gap. Their older albums might be better for those of us who have been listening to this style of music forever, but the new stuff is pulling new people in.

Boy George: Finally found his niche sweeping NY streets. What a dumbass forgetting the MOUNTAIN of coke on his counter before inviting the cops in, Don Henley style. Geesh

personally i never understood the hype around daft punk. i can appreciate the quality of their production work, but the music itself has never appealed to me - way too bubblegum for my tastes.

they're of the breed of edm groups that seem more focused on image and mainstream appeal over anything else. that approach to musicianship has never resonated with me.
