If you are playing on deck A and the effects on bank 1 make sure the mixer settings are as shown below. Also, make sure the DRY/WET (D/W) ratio is around 50% for starters.

One thing at a time. Keep doing it or reading it until you understand it. Then move on to the next thing until you know it as well. Then try and combine them. It's really not as easy as it looks, but with practice you'll get it.
