Continuing on this OT strand of thought...I think both the small club and huge stadium/festival types of shows have their merits...as long as the DJ is good, the sound system is good, and you're with friends, either will be fun. I think I personally tend to prefer smaller events with a group of people I in large part (maybe at least a quarter) know, but it's nice every once in a while to go to a huge festival with thousands of strangers (Ultra was great!).

I do think large light show types of festivals are more enhanced by drugs and less fun without them in comparison to smaller packed venues, which tend to be a blast either way.

    Default On Deadmau5

I dont care that hes rich.
Or in the Beatport Top 10. Im not jealous. People buy his tunes.

I dont even care that hes a jerk and that his ego gets in the way when he speaks and he just comes out with naive crap.

I just think his music is really really really boring.

Its like the musical version of a really really long coach journey down a motorway to a town and when you get there its shut and raining.

Deadmau5 is a gateway artist. By that I mean, I've found a lot of people who don't really know techno well, really really like his stuff. And so I can bring friends in from other aspects of musical enjoyment into really liking the tunes. Plus they are simple and have that "dance in the club" kind of feel, which works well on anyone willing to dance.

That being said, I've seen him live a couple times now, and I really enjoy his sets for the most part. The crowd gets into it because it's what they've heard a million times. It's not complex music and that is half the beauty of it. I just really like it, for whatever reason.

There's an entire genre full of gateway artists.
    It's called Trance.

ouch man, I know I know... trance is all bullshit and all.....

but you could start somewhere else first.... Why not Eurodance? "hard" dance? Happy Hardcore? or better yet, the new "house" scene in the US. David Guetta sits high upon his throne these days. Akon drops in every now too.

Sure... trance producers (read, not Eurodance producers. Cascada has no room to talk here) have been throwing hooky vocals all up in their stuff, and running the same cheese super saw synths for 5 ((EDIT 10)EDIT2: 15?) years, but at least the whole genre isnt shit (imo) like well, the ones I mentioned above (at least post 2000), imo. hahahaha.

You're completely right actually - showing my age with the Trance dig. EDM is far more accessible across a lot of its genres these days. The elitist snob in me wants to hate on it, but you can't ask for much more than a healthy EDM scene.

    I called it "Entry Level".

Thats cool. Nothing wrong with that. And if someone loves Deadmau5 after 10 years of listening to him that is fine. Im certainly not a music snob. If someone likes something that i might consider to be "entry Level" or a "gateway artist" its wrong to slag them off.

The problem is that listening to Deadmau5 is like slipping in and out of a 20 year comma then eventually dying of sheer and utter boredom.

Hes the Eminem of dance music. People who dont really get any deeper into hiphop stop at Eminem.

Its all preference people! I love his music, especially his progressive style tracks. Seen him live for 15 bucks only last month so I dont see how all you people are bashing him for steep tickit sales everywhere he goes. He had no audiovisuals at the show but you cant go wrong! Aaaand I know many other people who love his music also. His music is what dove me into the house seen deeper than ever back in 2006-2007. Some people may find it boring but i get chills down my spine listening to some of his tracks! And i dont give a shit what type of attitude he has, i just like the music.
