Be careful if you buy a Maschine on ebay. I purchased one that was labeled as a full version but it ended up being the educational version when I got it. I'm currently trying to work out a resolution with the seller, but I have a feeling it's not going to go well since there isn't a clear upgrade path for education->retail version.

As far as I can tell all the features are the same, however there is a MAJOR issue with the license. With the educational version you can only install to a *single* computer, can't transfer ownership should you wish to resell it, and you aren't supposed to use it for any commercial purposes.

    Everything you said is correct.
I feel for you man. The seller has pulled a shitty trick on you.

You are fully entitled (as far as i can tell) to a refund and eBay will/should act on your part.

He has misled you by misrepresenting the item for sale.
He agreed to a EULA agreement when he bought the Maschine at Educational discount and that agreement forbids him to sell the product on.

I dont know what you paid but it will certainly be enough to get eBay on your side.

You know im hearing more and more reports of Maschines being sold on eBay that are EDU items. Its worrying.

This text below is a Direct Copy of text from the Educational PDF Order Form:

EDU versions are not allowed to be resold or transferred.

Yeah - I messaged the seller and just went ahead and opened a claim on ebay saying that we were in the process of solving it, as a way to sort of pre-emptively nudge him towards doing the right thing. I paid $400 for it and it was a really close call between that or an APC40 when I got it, so if I end up getting a refund I might end up just going for that instead of forking out another $100 or so for a normal version. I do really like the device and think it has a ton of potential, I just don't know that I will really use it in a way that makes it worth it.

What really sucks is that I was already kind of bummed that on the retail version you can only install it on 2 machines. I had originally planned on using it my studio for production work (on the computer with 12g of ram hehe), in the living room on another machine where we have a virtual drum circle type setup (though I'm not that great at actual drumming so I cheat and jam on the sequencer lol), and then I am working on cleaning up another old laptop to use for our mobile dj setup. Once I saw that I could only do 2, I was like eh ok well it sucks but I can work with that, just use the studio for stationary and the laptop for portable... but then of course I discovered that I had the ultra gimped education version.

Yeah all NI software with the exception of Kore & Komplete is limited to 2 machines.

Hope you get it sorted . Im sure you could find a full version quite cheap.

Thats bull crap he/she incorrectly listed the item, he/she should be responsible for any costs.

I feel for you man, I bought a Maschine on ebay and the license transfer process with a seemingly barely literate seller who replies to me in one sentence answers when I ask for detailed information is getting really annoying. It sucks man. But I'm sure if you find a good seller you can get a good deal for a full version on ebay. Some i've seen are already unregistered, so you should be able to register right when you get it.

Would I. Be able to make the banks control diff decks....

for ex I click bank A and all 16 pads become designated for deck A and all the knobs also designated

Then Would I. Be able to make the banks control diff decks....

Then click bank B and all 16 pads become designated for deck B and all the knobs also designated to deck B

    Would this be possible

Santos - I see your question was answered in another thread. Just to confirm, yes this is possible.

Update on my situation - I had submitted a ticket to NI about removing the registration on the maschine so that I could return it and to clarify that no upgrade path was available. They told me that I would be able to use my current license and install it on both the studio pc and a laptop. I also confirmed that I will be able to deactivate the laptop and transfer it to a new laptop should I upgrade in the future.

The good news is that I actually *am* an adjunct faculty member at a college, so I qualify for the edu use, I am just not supposed to use it for any commercial purposes.

Of course now there is a dilemma to my pocketbook because I've spent the last couple days psyching myself up to buy an APC40 (really want to play around with monomulator). But I'm relieved because I was really starting to be sad that I would have to part with my Maschine.
