Yeah, I always have a backup in a CD player, but that's just for the laptop, i never have pre-mixes in there.

Always have a backup you can quickly switch to. I'd suggest having a good 20 min mix on your backup just in case you need to completely restart your computer or even reinstall some thing. Especially if you're playing by yourself.

I'd also have a really long track you can switch to or maybe a couple of tracks you've already mixed in case you got the runs or something

That works if you haven't just taken up all the channels with your Traktor set up... And if you're able to troubleshoot while mixing your CDs... and as you pointed out, you keep your CDs up to date.

My Traktor set up is one channel on the mixer. These days, moster mixers I play on have either 4 channels, or I can jump between two sets of line ins (optional phono connection). So yeah, usually that's set.

well i have went to the length of teaching 3 of my friends how do transitions. because I am a avid smoker and after like 2 hours of mixing i am itching for a cig. so I tell one of my buddies if i am not back when the track ends transition over into the next song for me and I already have the song cue'd up. But one thing I do is I never travel to a gig anywhere by myself I always bring someone with me, especially a house party I never been to. Because you never know what might pop off and need to get out of there quick you got some body else to help grab your shit and book it lol. also if you have to leave for a hot second, they are there to watch your stuff. My friends don't mind it cause they get free drinks all night.

pre-mix i always find is the best, 2 average songs, long enough to give you time to get there and back. but don't put on 2 great songs, as everyone will starting thinking 'awe I love this' look at the dj and you won't be there
