Totally agree...even though macs are much more stable you should still do a backup every now and then... although macs have less tendancy to crash, therefore needing less backups... my mac has never crashed once but since i own a record label... id hate to lose all of the labels projects/sets/tracks/masters, so i still back everything up once a month... just in case...
whether on a mac or pc, always have an external hard drive on hand. they are relatively cheap now a days. 500gigs for under a 100 bux. and like everyone has said already, back up ur shit!, on the external hard drive. electronics DO FAIL at some point, its inevitable, to think any less is moronic. so regardless of what u get, mac or pc, get an external hd too.
now back on topic, KRKs are awesome. i got 2 rp5s and a 8. love em for the crisp and accurate delivery. as for ur comp choice, my vote is a mac. right out the gate itll work. i have a pc too but if ur on a budget, get a used mac. i feel perfectly fine with buying a used mac and not having to worry so much about it crashing on me. can i say the same about a pc, no. its gotta be new with extended warranty and all...
My gripe is that when I was upgrading to Windows 7 is that WINDOWS TOLD ME TO RESTART MY COMPUTER. I restarted it, and it cleaned out my hard drive. Fact of the matter is that I have had way better luck with Apple in general, and it's nice to have a face to actually go and be able to talk to. Along with amazing in store support. That's all I was getting at. You can be a Windows fan boy all you want, it still wont change the way I view it or care to view it at all.
Experience with equipment > What people on the internet tell you.
Its always how its going to be.
damn thats odd, i just did a fresh install of win 7 on my asus laptop the other day. it clearly gave me an option to back up my data. what its suppose to do is create a disk image with ur said data, and restore them once the install is done. but i know how u feel bro, ive had my nightmares with windows too.
So.fucking.what.
My point is if - like every normal person on this forum - you had a copy of your work somewhere else - when you upgrade the os it doesn't matter if 'windows mysteriously wipes your hard-drive.'
And how am I a fanboy when I've just bought a mac.
You talk about experience, well in my experience computers don't make mistakes, it's the dick's using them that do.
Well in my experience Windows is shit, I was giving him my two cents. He is asking peoples opinion, so I gave him mine. I really don't give a shit about what you personally think of what my suggestion was to him.
My point is, that is my experience. Say whatever you want, do whatever you want. I really don't care.
For example something happened with my brothers MacBook Pro today when my mom was using it. She restarted the computer after it installed an update from Apple and then it would not boot up. A kernel overload occurred, I called in their customer service - they couldn't help too much but they set me up with my Genius Bar about 10 minutes away from my house. I went over there, 45 minutes I walked out of there with a laptop that worked perfectly again.
Take from it what you will.
