When I was 13, or somewhere around there, I started using a double cassette deck to make crude mix tapes and song edits. I don't know why I did it, maybe God told me to.

I started DJing shitty frat parties while in college cause i was the only one with (imo) a halfway decent taste in music (all kinds -> keeping a party going rather than dropping death metal during the middle of a dance party effectively killing the mood with that ladyfriend youre trying to get to go upstairs
a buddy of mine got me into EDM during college, and havnt put it down since. my love for it keeps growing, i cant wait till i actually can do something productive in ableton... and make something that doesnt sound like shit.
New Hobby, New toys...... oh how i love new toys.
13" Macbook - 256gb SSD, 750gb HDD, 8gb Ram ❘ DDJ-SX | HDJ-2000Kontrol Z1 | Midifighter 3D | Kontrol X1
Yeah, me too lol! Crazy expensive hobby.
I started DJing by mistake. I stumbled upon DJ'ing through Apple's accessories site as I was looking for a MacBook to pick up. I saw it, thought it looked like a lot of fun then tried it out at my friends place. I fell in love. I picked up an S4 a week later (oct 28th :P), and the rest is history!
It was all because of faithless insomnia, i made an edit of it using tape and my pal loved it, called it a remix, passed me a dj store catalogue, we spent hours making dream setups,
saved up, cutting lawns etc, then as soon as i had £400 i bought a dj starter pack, 2 tt and a mixer.
but even as a kid, if a toy made noise or could record sound, i was transfixed by it.
... because (Acid) House was like music from another planet. You can't underestimate how radical it was back in '88. Punk had been and gone, New romantic had passed us by and all that was left was chart filled dross. This was something that was utterly new and it's now what what defined my generation. The natural progression since then has been spell binding.
I feel sorry for anyone who says they didn't get in to this because of the music. They've missed out on something there....
A friend let me try out VDJ at a party, it was enough to get me hooked.
I could Not Dance And I did not want to sell Drugs Or Play BasketBall So Music Was The Next Best Thing And 18years Later
i fll in love with the old breakbeat sound from the south of england just before the happy hardcore sound came along, way back in 91-92 i was only 13 at the time but there was something about that jungle breakbeat sound that just grabbed hold of me.
I was always a clubber never interested dj'ing or making music up untill the last 2-3 years to finally try something for myself. The amount of money i have spent going to clubs & festivals all over europe every weekend for the age of 15 onwards is a disgrace, but i wouldnt change they experiences for the world, the places ive been the people ive meet have made me who i am today.
But a friend gave me a copy of reason a few years back, after i had finally decided to get a set of decks and start learning to mix myself. I aint looked back, i gave up my high paying job in sales to goto college and learn sound production. To be honest i have learned more by watching youtube and picking things up from sites like this, but i have now set up my own techno night and i am making music so in a way i am living the dream well standing at the window looking in just now lol
Probably comes down to the same basic reason as everyone else - I wanted to do more than just listen to the music that I love.
