<3 that slogan, I actually bought the shirt twice since I knew the first one would become washed-out
I think Europeans tend to know more about different genres in EDM than Americans (see this article which is written by someone from San Francisco I believe).
But EDM is getting bigger in the US so I believe soon it will be okay to make finer points such as "it's derogatory to call ___________'s music house--it's progressive." (enter your most-hated commercial EDM musician in the blank)![]()
Well, apparently the term "Techno" has a different meaning depending on your age and the place you live. In the 90's "Techno" was pretty much the collective term for all EDM genres in Germany. People only talked about "House", "Drum 'n' Bass" or other stuff when they were specifically talking about this subgenre, but when it's just about electronic dance music (which is a term, btw, that I have never heard anyone saying in Germany) in general, it was Techno and it was the right term.
During the last few years people suddenly referred to Techno as a subgenre on its own and used "Electronica" as collective term, which of course seems to be another self contained subgenre.
And Electronic Dance Music is to other people that techno-influenced popmusic like Lady Gaga, so as you can see, just freaking out when someone refers to whatever you wanna call it "Techno" is maybe wrong.

its because to the average person punk rock and heavy metal along with classic rock sound DRASTICALLY different. if you played a skrillex track and a tiesto track people would hear a difference but have a hard time telling its two totally different genres. its the fact its not something they have heard for their entire life so give them credit as at least they aren't calling it "that European crap"
yes but if u played a tiesto track vs say a netsky track THERES A huge huge difference. like say the difference between zeppelin and Black flag.
And whomever posted this article: http://www.residentadvisor.net/feature.aspx?1284
