+1 on rent sound and lights

Behringer is a good price point and decent quality for most of their gear, but not speakers.

You know in a club when they turn the main lights on at closing? Thats what your gig will be like without a decent light rig. They are ABSOLUTELY necessary.
Go to a small / medium sized club, look at the light & listen to the sound rig. Is it cheap and nasty? Sound bad? Look pathetic? You should be aiming to come as close as you can to a decent setup & beat a pathetic one.
These clubs cater for the same amount of people you are trying to cater for.

As bucky said, you never get a second chance to make a first impression.

If its the right impression, not only will you get ++cool points and potentially more gigs. You'll get da bitches!
