Yeah its fine but even that states that SMART Status is not supported.
TM did work once before though with this drive but the target drive was borked, thats the one i sent back.

my caddy is also not giving me the SMART ... don't know if that's the case with them all

on those 11k tracks in RO - they probably belong to a different OS user. It can be fixed.
    1. Right click the containing folder (or the parent folder, if there are multiple, it's safe)
    2. "Get Info"
    3. Unlock from the locker icon to do a permission change
    4. from the gear wheel menu, there's "apply to containing folders" option. check if your user has the Read&Write option and apply it.

this should solve this issue for good.

I don't think SMART Status is supported on external drives. Only directly connected ones.

That would make a lot of sense... still bugs me as to why the caddy shows the drive as GUID but the Mac shows MBR.

Anyway ive just started the OSX installation and if its fine ill just use Migration Assistant with TM.

Being he unashamed Apple fanboy that i am i should have just trusted TM in the first place hahaha

What i'd suggest to do is to just have the "Music", "Downloads", "Movies, "Pictures" and "Documents" on the spinning platter (the static content) and everything else on the SSD. That is mostly because of the Application Data & Local Settings folders - the system is extensively using them.
I understand what you're saying, but is that actually possible while keeping the file paths correct? I mean, obviously I could only move the music etc over to the HDD but then the path to the home directory would still lead to the SSD when Traktor/iTunes etc were looking for files.

My brother managed to lock himself out of his MBP a while back. No idea how. He ended up creating a new user account under a different name and moving everything across so the old one only exists as a small shell, but if it were me I'd say that was far from ideal!

I'm investigating the possible options since last night . I'm doing it with two partitions, so it will basically replicate your dual disk scenario. Will post once ready.

Karlos, how are your efforts going? All done and set, I hope

Thanks man, appreciate it. Having application related documents (like the Traktor settings files etc) on the SSD would certainly make sense.

Also with my new 750GB I'll be able to move my collection of ripped DVDs (from DVDs i own, you understand, lol) onto my laptop and free up my external hard drive for something else. Like I dno, a massive collection of lolcats.
