No, there is a sync button instead. How is the sync button any different from the slave button?
when you press 'sync' it will bring the track to the closest beatmark/grid, which will trainwreck a mix unless you've beatgridded the tracks.
when you press 'slave' it syncs the slave track's bpm to the master track's bpm with out actually moving the track, so it doesn't matter if you've beatgridded the track or not.

in Traktor 3 this happened as well, as far as I remember. When I sync'd two tracks together it lined them up with the beatmarkers. So I'm not sure how this is any different from what you're experiencing with Traktor Pro.
seriously buddy read.
yes the SYNC would line up the beatmarkers or bring a track back to the closest beatmarker.
but the SLAVE just syncs the BPM unless you press SYNC with the slave on....
good grief!
I think I've figured it out... (pardon my n00bness)...
I figured out you could expand the sync range so you can sync every track to any other track. That's pretty amazing, and my appreciation for TPro is coming back now
Yeah, I see your point.
But what throws me off is you don't want to set grids, and you want to rely on Traktor's bpm detection, yet you use slave... and if Traktor's bpm detection is off then you need to use the pitch fader anyway, which cancels out your slaving (unless I am remembering this wrong, which could happen, cause this discussion has been going on for a few days). Especially when working with funk and rock songs where the bpm will almost definitely not be detected correctly by Traktor.
This is not me critiquing, I'm just trying to understand your workflow
ya i only use slave more or less to sync the bpm, or close o sync anyways in the case of songs without set bpm. Also when I want to keep both the decks' bpm synced when I am changing the tempo on one deck so that they both stay flush mid-mix while I am making the tempo change.
eg.
say i wanted to mix a deck A that is 115bpm into deck B 120 bpm
i will hit master on deck B, and hit Slave on deck A so that deck A becomes 120 bpm as well.
now when im mixing out to Deck A i hit Master on Deck A and then hit Slave on Deck B , so that I can bring Deck A down to it's orginal temp(115) and deck B will follow it to 115.
now in circumstances that I am using songs with varying BPM I cannot rely on the BPM for an accurate so Slave is somewhat useless, I have to just play be ear in a similar fashion to beatmatching on turntables.
This also means that I cannot use the Slave/Master--> Master/Slave technique which i described above, I have to find other ways around it.
i hope that better explains my use for these functions!![]()

Thats a harsh exaggeration, if you watch ean's videos about beatgridding its rather quick and painless with some hotkeys/buttons setup.
If your tracks are recent and come from CDs or web sources they should be perfect too (unlike vinyl rips) where you dont need minor grid adjustments.
I'm pretty sure i could beatgrid somewhere around 100 tracks in an hour.
Back on topic though:
I've moved over to traktor pro completely now and only use traktor 3 if i'm going back to back with mates that havn't moved to traktor pro yet and/or can't come to grips with my custom midi setup.
I've had no issues with master/slave sync. I fire it up, i mix, it works.

Alright i think i get this basicly his issue is that Traktor doesnt have a "Tempo Sync" function (not to be confused with phase sync).
This is a known issue in Traktor Pro and is being delt with at the moment.
Depending on the individuals workflow this will effect some people more than others - even if your laying grids down this can be an issue as you cannot change the tempo of two tracks at a time without phase syncng the two tracks which sometimes is not a disireable options.
The only options would be to have the decks phase synced and shift the autogrid position to achieve the desired phase, then beatmatch the master deck to the 3rd deck playing. Another alternative is to make midi mappings which shift two decks tempo relative to each other at the same time - both of these options are impracticle though and i wouldnt recommend the use of either technique as both your code and yours workflow start getting messy.
