Mids and highs on loud systems tend to hurt peoples ears. When you backspin, it's ups the volume and key of it all. Keeping the bass in it will help give a fuller sound on that. Also, a large percentage of systems are going to have compressors running on them. When you pull out the bass, the system is going to shoot the rest of the signals volume up, but I guess that would only matter if no bass was in the other channel either, so it's somewhat dependent on the situation.
Oh... I think the first time I ever did a backspin on turntables was before pioneer ever made a DJ mixer.
