I think it's my way of saying that I like what I hear. Normally when I get a dope combo on the MF or do something tight I over dramatize it for myself unintentionally, I guess for self esteem??? Not sure, but I do it when I hear something that I like.

its because it keeps you thinking in beat, and its like the normal position is the neutral position so from there you can go to/do whatever, so you want to be there to have the most available options.
at least thats what i think my subconscious was thinking when i noticed myself doing this.
also, i drum on my desk with my fingertips kinda staccato like that too, completely not on purpose
