+1 on refurbished units, keep checking the store for updates.

I've bought every Mac (and my families) refurb rather than new and probably saved well over 2k so far and all units still going strong after 6+ years

The nice thing about refurbs is "IF" there was any problems with them they have already been repaired so you're pretty much guaranteed a top notch unit thats been tested intensively by "in country" Apple techs rather than being shipped direct from china unopened.

Better again call apple direct and ask what refurbs are in stock after checking the online store. I did that twice and got free Applecare on my moms 21' Imac, they threw in a Mighty mouse with my Macbook. Ask what they'll throw in if you order right now, sales reps get commission so will sweeten the deal if they can.

There is nothing special about macs they just work and thats what i love
In a PC world thats pretty special , I hope windows PC's keep shipping by the millions keeps me in a day job hehe.

I am currently in the process of purchasing a mac myself and honestly the 13" was originally what I was going to go for, but I mean it's not that much of a price jump for the 15" also considering the fact its a 2.0 quad core as opposed to the dual 2.7. I would suggest buying your mac bare bones and just upgrading the ram and hard drive yourself if you get them to do it your paying more and they don't let you keep the original hardware. its always nice to have some extra ram or an extra hard drive laying around just in case. AND the best part is i spoke with a mac rep and they had told me that you do NOT void the warranty if you replace them yourselve as long as you don't leave a giant hole in your hardware or something extremely obvious.

I hope after the word pie you're eating you're going to install Windows 7 onto it!! I'm pretty sure your problem would just be down to the hardware in your current laptop.

I use all 3 operating systems on a daily basis (Windoze, OSX, Linux) and all three have their advantages and disadvantages.

Apple makes the best hardware IMO, but it pisses me off they enclosed the battery and aren't user replaceable anymore. The whole vendor lock in bullshit is the worst.

I dig my older MBP but I don't see myself buying another Apple product ever again.

    YMMV
