    plus, if you have your kick at 20 hz (korrekt me if this is wrong) wich is barely hearable, the difference between putting the grid on the top or the bottom of the wave are 1/40 of a second (0,025 s). is that even noticeable?

    i put it at the closest zero point to the start of the sound, where the waveform begins to move up from the center line

    Use your ear and the click track. I usually set the grid marker then play the track and nudge the grid until it sounds perfect.

    I do like Russ811 and put the marker right where the kick or snare starts to make itself visible in the waveform, otherwise you're going to miss a small portion of the sound.

    Usually I don't even care though, I always nudge the tracks so that it sounds good in my headphones and that is almost always a little bit off. It's the swing or groove that is mentioned earlier and since its different in every track combination I like to keep it loose and not completely synced.
