He wants to beatmatch, you're just as bad as the sync haters if you berate him for beatmatching. Let him mix how he pleases.

There are still a million other things you can do with your mixing that's not beatmatching.

One day decide to be a little bit more open minded and you'll realize that being comfortable with learning more is never a bad thing.

No need for arguing so lets stop it here please.

I mix in my headphones all the time. I want to get some in ears, but that's a lot of $$ to try something.

You've misunderstood me. If someone wants to manually beat match then go for it - I'm not berating anyone for any way that they play. I would hope that if someone is playing to 8500 people that they aren't still 'learning' (though we are all learning to a certain extent). I've been mixing for 17 years and have never played to that many people - it's a HUGE crowd. The DJ booth looks astonishing. I'm jealous!!

I certainly didn't want to spark a sync/no sync debate I just wanted to get across the idea that you shouldn't feel pressured to manually beat match. What works, works and the OP said he was under loads of stress that night.

A DJ isn't measured on the ability to beat match alone. It was meant to be a supportive post and I apologise if it didn't come across that way.

I know where you're coming from and believe me I've rocked that place hard!! The other resident DJ's are proper loving my style. I scratch & stuff and cut into different genres constantly. And I aint afraid to play shit other DJ's dont play and watch the set-in-their-way managers look on when the crowd go fuckin bananas and they are forced to give me the thumbs up cos they can see the crowd are loving it (you gotta understand the tourist destination I am at right now, its tough being able to do "your thing", they dont know what the fuck dubstep is for example. I've had so much of an uphill struggle to deal with but its paying off)... so it's all goin down well right now, peeps are proper happy with me. It's more a personal thing, say my laptop dies... I wanna know I'm prepared to turn to CD's with no problems.

I wouldnt say I lack experience. I been DJing for years man. More a case of not bein used to the system. To be fair this is definitely the biggest venue I have played so getting used to the boominess is new to me. Big high ceilings and shit dont help with sound reflection. I agree tho, I need to just resist hitting the sync button and I'm confident things will just fall into place. I have mixed in there before with no pressure and been cool to a certain extent (still jumped on the sync button tho if I wasnt totally comfortable with how things were sounding in the headphones) but was just under pressure from it being the biggest night of the summer so far (obviously nights will get bigger). But yeah I just gotta go for it I guess.

Do they have 3 turntables and 4 CD players in there?
They got loads of gear man, DVJ's, CDJ's, TT's, it's a superclub so it's necessary. The night Im referring to they had 6 CDJ's & 2 TT's with 2 mixers set up. Changing over from one DJ to another is cool, there's 2 separate set up's so while one is playing the other can hook up any hardware without getting in the way and start rockin out straight away on a totally different mixer all ready plugged in. and those funktion one monitors in the pic are on sliding rails so you can just slide em over to the other set up or position em where ever you want.... one on each far side of the booth if there are 2 DJ's for example.

Anyway, thanks for responses. Anyone saying they use earplugs... can you tell me what dB cut filters you are using??

    Thanks again

I'm sure e the people hating on the SYNC button don't drive automatic cars, use spell checker in their posts, Excel in their day job or cook using a microwave.
