Just bought used turntables, did I make a mistake?

You see, it the entire 'DJ as posing twat' aspect of things does my nut. I don't know why but I get really irrationally annoyed when people ask for headphone reccomendations and say they need the to look 'cool' or buy turntables that they don't use as some sort of prop.

Fair enough for those that are into that kind of thing. They can just stand there concentrating on looking cool with an asymmetric haircut and your spray on jeans with the crotch around your knees and I'll concentrating on playing far better music ...

I'm from the UK and all the venues near me that are refurbishing are starting to ditch the turntables.

I did realise after I posted that, that it's probably indicative of both the local scene and the bars I play in - there's still a massive funk/hip-hop/breaks scene around here, and that kind of goes hand in hand with decks ..

those styles that makes sense. There is more of an electro scene round my way which I guess would make more sense in the turntables being ditched. I think thats also to do with the fact that 3 or 4 places have been refurbished or taken over and space wise cd decks make more sense than cd decks and turntables.

I've never really been a huge worrier about the way music is played. I really embraced CD decks early on as it basically meant I could write a track and be playing it out in a club that night. To me i was able to play better sets because of that. So I've always been about playing the best music possible, rather than worrying about how its played.

Same here really, it's all reggae, jungle, dnb and the like. As a result everyone has a bunch of turntables. Hell, my favourite bar is only just thinking about getting CDJs.

1200s and APC40s are the weapons of choice. I think I'm cool without CDJs.

To me i was able to play better sets because of that. So I've always been about playing the best music possible, rather than worrying about how its played.

That's what finally convinced a total vinyl fascist mate of mine to get Serato - he was sick of spending a fortune getting dubplates cut, and then tweaking the tune and getting another one done ...

I can just about fly a CDJ, essentially I've taught myself so I can use them if I need to, though I've no desire to ever buy any ...

I the last 12 months I've played off and S4, a VCI100, 2 x decks &Traktor with my VCI100 as a mixer, 2 x decks & serato, and even 2 cdjs and a mixer (last mintue stand in for a mate for an hour - had a couple of memory sticks full of tunes on me), and even a pure vinyl set. No point being the awkward bugger who needs exactly the right set up before they can do anything ...

I am not sure if this was directed towards me specifically. I did ask for headphones recommendations but not to look cool.

You know you can do both (look good and play well). I don't see what the big deal is.

Although I wouldn't consider an assymetric haircut and "spray on jeans" (not sure what that is) with the crotch around my knees a good look. I'm more of a t-shirt and regular jeans or shorts kinda guy. Do love my fresh nikes and fitted though.

Plus after buying TT's I can't imagine DJing without them. It just feels better. The controller was cramped, it looked small and lacking. The whole thing just feels better. I'll end up learning to scratch a bit but currently beat matching by ear has been a real bitch. Lets not kid ourselves either, part of you purchased the gear you have because you like that style and look, even if it was 100% functional.

Im with jojo, buddy you did not make a mistake. I would have snatched up the tables in a heartbeat for $75, maybe would have got the down to $50 with my hustling skills. But on the real, turntables are not on the out. 1200's are at the highest prices that I've ever seen, so take that as a hint.
