You got it disco420 - just beatgrid the parts you want to mix, and use loops to get creative with your mixes. Please don't listen to the cats telling you to warp these tracks in Ableton. That's fine for some electronic music that was supposed to be consistent BPM throughout, but if you start warping old disco tracks, Disco Stu himself will come into the club and revoke your funk card....

haha yes i know it, but man check it out, traktor just can read 1 bpm for song, so if the these loops have different bpms ?

Yep that is a big problem with traktor unfortunately. The workaround is to set the grid for one part of the song, make a loop there, save the loop as a cue point, and then make a grid for anotehr part of the song. It will destroy your grid for the first part because you have to change the bPM but the loop will stay where it is, so you can still match the loop to another song even though the grid is off. You will have to match it by ear of course because sync will be worthless when the BPM is wrong, so you can make a note in the comment field of what the BPM is for the loop. So you have one BPM recorded in traktor and the other one in the comment field. That's what Ean's doing in that video with the led zeppelin song.

Yeah supposedly Serato already has this problem solved. I have only used Serato Scratch Live (SSL), not Itch, so I can't comment on how Itch does it. In SSL there are grids but you beatmatch by ear so I don't really pay much attention to the grids there anyway -- they seem no different from the transients Traktor uses when you have no grid set. So honestly I don't know how Serato handles music with different BPMs, but the Serato advocates seem to think they've done it right. My guess is that the tracks warp similar to Ableton in order to stay in beat if you are syncing with the software. Personally I prefer just beatmatching such tracks by ear anyway.

Abelton route is long and tedious, but way better in the long run. Just warp the down beats that are outta wack.

I just finished warping and beat gridding 500 hip hop and funk vinyl rips (took me 2 months).

The main problem I was running into before I warped my tracks were

    1) Freeze Delays sounded like complete shit, no to mention if I wanted to loop anything.

    2) If a record was warped while being ripped, the pitch drift would be compounded and I would have to babysit the pitch fader (Turntables)

    3) Wasting cues on grid markers.

    but fuck it.

There's your answer - learn how to beatmatch - and more importantly - learn what to do when it starts drifting

Word. but try mixing with some fucked up vinyl rips shits all over the place...One of the advantages of warping tracks in Abelton is the fact you can actually unwarp really fucked up records. No more soaking your records in a bathtub or baking them in the oven to try to unwarp them.

Shit, I bet half the people on this board have no clue what im talking about.

    Butt fuck it.

Yeah mate I got ya - warping can help, and unfortunatley I do remember warped vinyl, but bottom line is playing older music will require some practice.
