If it's a mac from '06, and it a core duo ( not a core 2 duo ) then you can only have 2 gigs max of ram. So if it doesnt boot with the original ram inside, then pram reset it like it was suggested. If that doesnt work maybe try booting it with the osx dvd and reinstall everything (sure hope you back up your ish, because if not it will be a hard lesson ).

    Right I'm back!
I've managed to get the macbook working with the old ram so I haven't buggered the insides which is nice to know.
Next step is making a complaint with ebay or paypal regarding getting my money back (the serial number of a different macbook was in the product description so I defiantly have grounds to make a complaint there).
However, I have been giving it a bit of thought and at the end of the day I still managed to get the laptop for £200 (which is a steal as far as I am aware) and to upgrade the ram to 2gb is only £30 or £40, maybe I should just let it slide and upgrade the ram?
I'm sure 2gb ram and a 1.83 GHz Duo core would be fast enough for DJing on? Does anyone have any advice on this one? It sounds like it would be powerful enough but computer specs aren't something I'm best at, there just numbers too me!

I have the 15' inches macbook pro 1,83 with 2 gigs of ram.
It works, i've tried tp2 with my conectiv and can get a very good latency, even with 4 fx, best quality timestrech, etc... so i imagine it must be even better with native's souncard.
Ableton live works, but no big projects if you want low latency.
For 200 pounds its a good price to have a reliable mac (i've dj with it a lot, has seen festival dust, smoky clubs, and after 5 year and a regular clean up of the fans, it works just like day one, well even better with snowleo and 2 gigs of ram).
But keep in mind that it is now the bottom in term of software requierment, that means in a year or 2 there is no way that you'll be able to install new software or uprgades...
    But it's a good machine

put in a complaint anyway with paypal, the guy tried to deceive you. see how he reacts. you can always drop the complaint within a amount of days. They let you try to resolve it first.

Get some money of the mac, he happy because you drop the complaint.

buy a cheap optibay from the money and put a small ssd, or a hybrid seagate momentos 500gb harddrive to run os and traktor, you happy.

    just my thoughts

Anyhow have fun with your mac
