Greece...I remember them busting parties left right and center a few years ago.
At one Psytrance Outdoor Event they REALLY went at it and were smashing poor hippies that were tripped out, ripping tents open, searching females...HEAVILY (if you get my drift). Not nice!
So I if it were to happen anywhere...it would be Greece.

Here's the thing.. Mostly for DJs, you don't get busted for playing music you didn't pay for... You get busted if the venue/you (If you're a mobile DJ) aren't paying the monthly payments to the music royalty commissions such as ASCAP and BMI. The venues pay these fees as a blanket protector for any music played in the venue. That's where the artists make a little money out of us playing live. If the venue doesn't not have this license then it is on you to have this taken care of, as you are the sole person responsible for what you are playing. Most people/places don't really think about this, though as I say this I have never had an issue arise with it and I have never had to pay for my own blanket license. However, this is the real problem with playing music out and about though, not wether you own the tracks or not. Quite frankly they are not going to come to a club and analyze your files to see if you own them, they will come, see if you have the music broadcasting license, if you do, you're good, if not, you get shut down and fined.

Like i've always said, if you have the money, you should be buying the music, but if you're on a budget, and need to pirate shit to get started, that's cool, I mean, I think of it this way, if you either don't play the track, or pirate it, by playing it, you're exposing it to people who may go out and buy it, who wouldn't have if they hadn't heard you spin it... It's a morale thing, with some loopholes really
Years ago when I was DJing with vinyl the venue I was playing in on was audited by the PRS (Performing Rights Society) who look after royalty payments to artists from venues in the UK. They went through my record box and took a note of all the tunes I had in there. Now obviously you couldn't illegally download vinyl but if this was to happen to your laptop some issues could possibly arise.
