I've actually hosted a few "nerd conventions" myself (of the video game/manga variety) and if this is anything like it, I'd expect you'd want to play a lot of video-game-influenced EDM, electrohouse, electro-y dubstep, chiptunes etc. But yeah, you might want to find out what sort of people will be attending, "nerds" is a bit unspecific if you ask me.

I would stay away from dropping strange samples from Star Trek and whatnot though, nerds, like normal people, want to dance their ass off to music they like, not stand around and try to figure out which episode of Star Trek you're referencing in your set

Nerds (like myself) listen to normal music. So just play stuff you normally would. We love electro, dubstep, DnB, Moombahton etc.

I wouldn't get to hyped up over trying to drop "nerd" tracks and try to play quality music. This crowd you can mix genre, go to old school favorites and known hits, play things that fit nice with the last song and have fun. Just try to hold your groove, and feel free to drop a few of the things suggested, but do it cohesively. No need to go big bang theory sampling and legend of zelda unless you have something choice. Remember they just want to party and hopefully get laid like the rest of the world.

You should totally work in some old school 8 bit video game songs.
