For me the initial spark was this:

which I heard on this free promo CD from the Guardian newspaper (click the pic for tracklisting):

when I was 12 years old on my trusty sony CD walkman.

Then later this album got me into Drum & Bass:

    SANDSTORM!!!!

Honestly I don't know what song. I remember being a kid and listening to house music in the 80s. Back then it wasn't called EDM though...

But United DJs of America - Josh Wink was the mix I heard a few years earlier that sucked me in.

probably "Eurythmics - Sweet Dreams" or "Queen - Radio Ga Ga" (loved that vocoded effect on the vocal)... heard them both in the mid-80's and was immediately drawn to learning how to make those kinds of sounds... a few years later and I was writing tunes on my Amiga using OctaMED

more recently, I was kinda into the whole Britpop scene in the mid-90's... when I got hold of Jilted Generation, Exit Planet Dust, Leftism and InSides, I quickly moved into big beat and dnb... starting off with Bukem style Logical Progression, then moving into a bit of Jump Up, quickly followed by Tech Step in the late 90's (which I stuck with until this day).
