These are pretty much all hip-hop....plus another 10 crates on the ground.
I still have the passwords from the radio stations I used to work for, which = Unlimited top 40. It's by no means my favorite, but saves from having to spend $$ on bullshit.Anytime you're looking for hip-hop...chances are, I have it, and can send it to you whenever

Am working in traktor...
Some songs a 4 beat loop works, or maybe my loop foo is too weak...others they don't
[EDIT:] Holy crap! that's a ton of records...
Up until this point, I was somewhat unsure as to how relevant the DJ Tech Tools community would be to me being that I hip-hop/r&b/top40 DJ. I just wanted to say that it's reassuring to know that we have an experienced contributor such as yourself, especially one involved in hip-hop.
I'm a fairly new DJ who's worked bars and lounges using only my computer. I've recently just ordered the VCI-100, but I am a little worried because I'm not sure if it's good enough for scratching conditions. Do you think it's a good first step?
With that said, I hope you don't mind if I ask you questions and seek advice in the future. Also, any passwords or connections you could help me with to Top 40 or Hip-Hop would be most appreciated.
Thanks
I'm a novice hip-hop/top40/r&b DJ.
Until now, I have been able to work bars, clubs, and parties using only Virtual DJ on my computer (tower -- no lappy top), keyboard, and mouse. (sad I realize, saving up for a vci-100) I knew nothing when I started and everything was self taught from you-tube videos and great help from this site.
However, what I can produce is something fairly decent. Since it's near impossible to scratch on virtual dj without a MIDI controller, my best recommendation is doing your homework and learning the rhythms. Incorporate counting and the possibilities are endless.
As for transitions points, I like to use the motto "Respect the Chorus". This means that it's okay to loop in a sample of the next 8 or 16 bar rhythm, but you sound fade over until the chorus of your concurrent song is finished playing.
If you want an example, here's something easy you can try that would better demonstrate what I mean.
Enur // Calabria 2008
Pitbull // Calle Ocho
Both songs have a Latin rhythm and can be counted in 4 or 8. And in my experience from venues around Boston playing top 40 and hip hop is for DJs to take the well-known 16 bar sample from "Calabria" and drop it into another latin based song such as "Calle Ocho" (downbeat works fine).
Let me know if this helps you or I'm mistaken somewhere in my explanation. Hope this helps.
