Just looking at this forum, sooo many kind of not really interesting new topics popping up everyday ("hey I got problem X", "which X should I buy", "look what happened to me", hey I did gig X and it was AWESUM!!!1111" etc. etc.) could be prevented by just making some extra stickies for them. They really clog up the forum and quickly push out the topics which actually are interesting to read.

But that's how I think about it.

i really dont like this sort of post, especially those "what should i buy" there are tons of threads about beginner equipment but most newcomers wont use search but create a new topic instead..

The thing with this is that I agree these things clog up the forum but the majority of members in my experience will simply direct them to the search function or even post links to similar threads. It's never been the done thing to be rude or ignorant but I could kind of understand a regular member getting pissed off. But this is different to dishing out negativity when some one posts a positive gig experience.

This DEFINITELY isn't the user experience that the owners of this forum want associated with it and I'm sure there are people who would be disappointed that this is the experience that you have had.

Hence the reason I suggested putting in Stickies in the Gear and Controllers area with a brief writeup on each for:

    • Headphones
    • Starter Controllers
    • Laptops

This combined with a non-closing Poll on each so newbies can be reffered to and a glance see whats most popular with the majority of DJ's and as a result best supported by the community and why.

These topics seem to have the most duplicate posts by newcomers and always end up similarly long winded posts by other newbies who don't have a clue or another mac vs PC battle.

However this might hinder the "google juice" for DJ Tech Tools as more and more similar topics with different wording gets picked up on for SEO.

Undertandable a newcomer wants to ask their own questions, but at least once a week theres a "what laptop", "What Headphone", What controller thread being started which has already been answered a hundred times.

I'm with Kooper on this one. I shouldn't get so angry about it, and everywhere else on the web I ignore it, but here at DJTT it pisses me off to see people responding to threads or posts in ways that would be inappropriate and assinine in a face to face conversation. And would probably get them a punch in the face.
    Latest example : http://forum.djtechtools.com/showthread.php?t=50412
Not as harsh as the other thread, but still very rude responses from 2 people. I used to never see this kind of crap on DJTT. The same things can be said in a constructive and helpful way, but for some reason, some people would rather be dicks.
I want my warm and fuzzy DJTT back!

It's from the growth. When I started here it was full of peeps that were (mostly) already educated in their craft, with the growth we have since diluted that, and people have come in without an observance to the way we functioned before their arrival. Honestly its just a matter of patience for the forum to get back to the level where it was at (with a little help from the mods and us using the report buttons) it shouldn't take long.

Honestly this is also part of the reason I think the site should be upgraded to vbulliten for publishing (with articles, personal blogs, etc.) we have many dedicated members (myself included) who wouldn't mind writing up an article on what gear to get, or how to do this or that, or (insert informative article type here). That way when we get some of the repetitive questions from newcomers we can just refer to the article and end of story. Any questions after reading the article can fe answered in is comments section.

And if you say it doesn't seem to be working for djf, please remember that they lost EVERYTHING, but what they did have was used the same way.

A sticky won't change the number of duplicate threads.

If someone can't be troubled finding the search function, then I can't imagine them being any more likely to read and post in a sticky.

The only way to get the point across is to moderate the threads, with specific instruction as to WHY it was modified, then MAYBE it will change.

    hell no!
imho it´s always best to let the members handle the problems they have by their own (we´re not 12 anymore). i think a mod should only do his modbizniz when it comes down to insults and shit. just saying

That thread in particular rubbed people the wrong way because it was really encapsulating of the "rise of the DJ" kind of thing that people on this forum have always been upset about (the whole rinsing it out right proper banging rager bruv, the number of heads at the venue, watching a DJ walk up to the decks in slo motion to the filtered breakdown bit of a track kind of stuff). And people on an internet forum are never going to just ignore the threads they're annoyed by - its why all the newbie threads get spammed with the same LMGTFY posts every time instead of just falling away with 0 replies. We were having this same discussion a year ago and will be having it again a year from now; its just the nature of the net. As the community grows (and the ratio of new, transient members keeps going up), it will only get more prevalent.

i saw that thread before anyone replied, thought the OP sounded a bit full of himself (no offence intended...) so i didn't reply. when i checked back later tho and saw the hell storm that had brewed up i just thought WTF tho!

looked like a fun party to me... there wasn't any need for any of those crappy replies. i know i'm still noobish on this forum myself but it did seem more friendly when i first joined and had been a lurker for quite a while before that.
